Sources & Attribution
Traceability
A source citation should identify the work and the relevant edition or date. Preserve the context needed to interpret the cited material.
Primary sources
Use original documents where they address the question. A later summary is identified as such rather than presented as the original finding.
Quotations
Keep quotations accurate, attributed and within the permission applicable to the source. A quotation does not imply endorsement of the new work.
Data
Describe the origin, definitions, period and transformations of data used. Public visibility alone does not establish permission for bulk reuse.
Images and figures
Use material with an appropriate license or permission. Credit the actual creator and identify substantive adaptations.
Confidential sources
Do not publish private information merely because it was submitted for review. Use the agreed information-handling procedure.
Corrections
Report a source error with the publication, passage and original reference.
