Governance

Governance framework

Governance establishes responsibility for institutional direction, administration and oversight. Delegated authority is defined in the governing documents and terms of reference for the relevant activity.

Governing documents

Approved documents identify their authority, version and effective date. Referenced policies should be read alongside them. Browse institutional documents.

Decision responsibilities

Policy approval, committee appointments, technical review and publication approval are separate responsibilities. Each activity records the authority and review required for its decisions.

Professional and commercial interests

Membership fees, sponsorship and purchases of services do not confer editorial control or determine technical conclusions. Relevant relationships are disclosed and managed. Read our impartiality policy.

Appointments

Appointments specify the role, term, reporting relationship and limits of authority. Advisory participation does not confer powers beyond the appointment or approved terms of reference.

Conflicts and recusal

Participants disclose relevant interests and withdraw from work where an unmanaged conflict could affect judgment. The disclosure and resulting arrangement are recorded. Read the conflicts policy.

Review and escalation

Service and conduct concerns follow the complaints procedure. Challenges to eligible institutional decisions follow the appeals procedure. Complaints · Appeals.

Policy maintenance

Current approved documents govern the activity. Earlier versions remain identifiable where needed to explain prior decisions. Changes specify their effective date and any transition arrangements.
