Public Consultations

Consultation and technical review

Consultation provides a route for relevant evidence and reasoned comments to inform technical work. It is distinct from approval of a final publication.

A defined subject

A consultation concerns a specified draft or technical question. Its scope determines the comments, evidence and professional perspectives relevant to the review.

Comment requirements

A consultation notice sets the submission period, time zone and conditions. Comments identify the document or clause, proposed change and technical reason.

Review and disposition

Technical comments are considered on their substance. The review addresses material issues and distinguishes a comment from an accepted amendment.

Information and rights

Contributors identify relevant interests and any restriction on the use of submitted material. Private third-party information requires the appropriate permission.

Technical updates

Subscribe to technical updates for publication and consultation correspondence on the subjects you select.

Propose a technical question

Contact standards support about the consultation procedure or submit a technical proposal for consideration.
