International standards research

Research Subjects

Explore twelve research subjects connecting standards with quality, engineering and evidence.

Choose a technical question

Choose the technical question closest to your work. Subjects combine selected references, comparisons and practical records so that a reader can move from a general issue to a defined document set.

The subjects are deliberately cross-connected. A medical device review may involve quality systems, electrical safety and laboratory evidence; a battery review may involve product safety and transport requirements.

Quality, conformity and measurement

Quality and organizational practice concerns responsibilities, processes, auditing, risk and procurement. Conformity assessment and measurement concerns how results are produced, evaluated and accepted.

Read these subjects together when an organizational certificate or a test report is being used to support a product decision. The scope and object of the evidence matter as much as its title.

Health, food and consumer products

Health-related products, food and consumer goods have different technical and regulatory contexts. The collection examines medical device systems and risk, food hygiene and labelling, cosmetic manufacture and selected protective products.

Each subject begins with the intended use and the responsible activity. It then connects international references with the sources needed for the relevant market or assessment context.

Engineering, materials and energy

Engineering subjects address electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, machinery, industrial systems, materials, construction, transport, batteries and energy. Product configuration, test conditions and the relationship between general and particular documents are recurring questions.

The purpose is to assemble an appropriate reading set. A single test method or management system cannot stand for all the requirements applicable to an engineered product.

Digital and environmental systems

Digital and environmental subjects connect organizational systems with evidence about products, processes and outcomes. Information security, industrial cybersecurity, software quality and AI management use different technical models. Environmental management, life cycle assessment and greenhouse gas work have different assessment boundaries.

The profiles help readers identify the object being evaluated and the evidence needed to support a particular statement.

Compare or follow a pathway

Comparative studies address relationships that recur across subjects, including editions, adoption and the distinction between assessment activities. Reading pathways arrange those resources around the reader's task.

Use a pathway when you need an order of work. Use a study when you need to examine the basis of a particular conclusion or understand why two apparently similar documents are used differently.
