Identify the subject, document edition and decision involved. A precise question is easier to examine than a general request for approval.
How do I choose a standards edition?
Check the applicable contract, regulation or technical requirement and confirm publication status with the original publisher. The newest edition is not automatically the edition required for every task.
Can different test results be compared?
First compare sample identity, method, units and conditions. A numerical difference alone does not establish a meaningful performance difference.
Does a reference imply endorsement?
No. Citation acknowledges a source. It does not establish a partnership or approval by the cited organization.
Does membership confer a credential?
Membership establishes the stated membership relationship. It does not confer an unstated professional license, product approval or certification.
What is the status of a technical answer?
General explanations support understanding. An approved publication or formal institutional decision identifies its own authority and scope.
