Research on defined product requirements and the use of standards in Indonesia. Each record identifies its scope, source and practical evidence questions.
Market scope
SNI publication and compulsory ministerial application are separate.
The records below examine specific provisions and standards relationships. They do not combine different products or regulatory roles into one approval route.
Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection · Article 8(1)(a) and (4)
Article 8 prohibits production or trade in goods or services that fail required standards and legal provisions. Paragraph 4 also requires withdrawal from circulation for the specified violations. The practical review begins with identifying the actual mandatory rule for the product, then checking whether released stock conforms. A voluntary standards declaration cannot excuse a failure to meet an applicable legal requirement.

Provide required product information and instructions in Indonesian
Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection · Article 8(1)(j)
The consumer protection law prohibits trading goods without the required information or instructions in Indonesian. This is an information delivery duty, separate from the product’s test results or certification status. A market release review should inspect the instructions actually supplied with the Indonesian configuration and confirm that any translated warnings remain consistent with the design, intended use and source safety assessment.

Certification when an SNI has been made compulsory
Law No. 20 of 2014 on Standardization and Conformity Assessment · Article 25(1)–(4), read with Article 24
The Law requires certification where an SNI has been made compulsory under Article 24 and prohibits the specified nonconforming supply and activities. Certificate status matters: absence, expiry, suspension or withdrawal cannot be ignored. The correct review connects the compulsory implementing regulation, exact SNI designation, product coverage and certificate status; it does not treat a generic SNI logo as evidence for all products from a factory.

Telecommunications testing and certificate coverage
Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 3 of 2024 on Telecommunications Equipment Certification · Articles 6 and 7
Compliance with the technical standards is demonstrated through testing and a certificate. The rule ties testing to brand, equipment type and country of manufacture, and requires different certificates for the same brand and type made in different countries. A sourcing change between factories in different countries therefore needs a regulatory coverage review, even if the commercial model name remains unchanged.

Scope and conditions
The Regulation provides exceptions in Article 20; a device’s overseas authorization is not by itself an Indonesian certificate.
Actions
Identify the applicable technical standards and eligible testing route.
Match brand, type and manufacturing country to the certificate.
Evidence identified by the source
Testing evidence and certificate for the applicable equipment configuration, unless an exception applies.
Materials for the research review

Distinguish certificate validity from the production and import window
Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 3 of 2024 on Telecommunications Equipment Certification · Article 18(1)–(3)
Article 18 distinguishes an unlimited certificate from the permitted period for manufacturing, assembling or importing equipment under it. That activity is limited to three years from certificate issuance; continuing afterwards requires technical compliance demonstrated by testing and a new certificate. Procurement and import controls should therefore check the activity window rather than recording the certificate simply as “no expiry”.

Bottled water storage wording and polycarbonate packaging warning
BPOM Regulation No. 6 of 2024 amending the processed food labelling regulation · Article I inserting Articles 48A and 61A; Article II transition
The amendment adds required storage wording for bottled water and a warning about possible BPA release for water in polycarbonate packaging. It took effect on promulgation but allows circulating bottled water up to four years to adjust. In 2026, a label review must therefore record packaging material and transition applicability, rather than claiming every existing label is already unlawful or that all plastics release BPA.

Plan and verify the required label change within the applicable transition.
Evidence identified by the source

SNI ISO 9001:2015 is an identical national adoption
SNI ISO 9001:2015 — Quality management systems — Requirements · Official catalogue: equivalence and status fields
BSN’s official catalogue identifies SNI ISO 9001:2015 as identical to ISO 9001:2015 and also publishes its 2022 confirmation record. The catalogue separately lists the climate action amendment. Document control should distinguish the base designation, confirmation and amendment, then establish which documents the selected contract or certification scheme requires. A quality management certificate remains evidence about its stated organizational scope, not every product characteristic.

SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2017 adopts the international laboratory competence standard
SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2017 — General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories · Official catalogue: designation, identical adoption and establishment decision
BSN lists SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2017 as an identical adoption of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, established by its December 2018 decision. The difference between the standard’s designation year and national establishment date should be retained. When competence evidence is needed, the next step is to examine the laboratory’s current accreditation and detailed scope for the actual work, rather than treating access to the standard as accreditation.

SNI ISO 13485:2016 adopts the medical device quality management standard
SNI ISO 13485:2016 — Medical devices — Quality management systems — Requirements for regulatory purposes · Official catalogue: equivalence and establishment fields
The official BSN record identifies SNI ISO 13485:2016 as an identical adoption of ISO 13485:2016 and records its national establishment in December 2017. The relationship supplies a precise national document identity for medical device quality management. A regulatory review should separately identify any legal or contractual requirement to apply it, and connect the claimed system scope to the actual device activities and sites.

SNI IEC 62368-1:2014 adopts the identified IEC safety edition and corrigendum
SNI IEC 62368-1:2014 — Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment — Part 1: Safety requirements · Official catalogue: IEC equivalence and active status
BSN identifies this national document as an identical adoption of IEC 62368-1:2014 with its 2015 corrigendum. That edition-specific relationship matters when comparing an overseas report with a national requirement. A report against a newer IEC edition should not simply be relabelled as compliance with the SNI: the applicable legal or certification route and any accepted differences still need to be established.
